Conditional love
Am I overreacting? Honestly
My FIL was just visiting us from across two countries. He's a total self absorbed dill-hole but that's beside the point.
He keeps telling my 9 month old that she's going to go to an Ivy league (american) school ... Fine, whatever. But when I say that I will be proud of her even if she choses to wait tables for the rest of her life he tells me that some things aren't worth being proud of.
I have a trade school diploma, I didn't go to university. So you know, ouch!
Is it too much for me to insist that he stop putting such high expectations on my child? I know she's only little but she's growing!
Am I being silly? I mean it's not my dream to see my baby wait tables but if she's happy I would be proud. Doctor, waitress, disney employee ... I don't care if she becomes a gypsy and travels selling magic potion, I would still proudly profess my love for my child.
