Thinking of switching to a copper IUD from the pill.. any thoughts?

If you have one, how do you like it? Did you go from the pill to an IUD?

I have one and I like it. It's been six months for me and my only side effects have been cramping throughout the month and watery brown discharge. A friend of mine has had hers for 8 years and she loves it. We both also use the pull out method too....my bf almost never finishes in me.

I found when I was on the pill it made me all levels of crazy, and pretty much just killed my sex drive, so I switched to the copper coil because it was non-hormonal. I really love it, it's way more convenient for me than the pill, I've had it for 10 months now, and although my periods got heavier for the first 6 months, they have now returned to my "normal" level. I'd highly recommend! Also, there are a lot of horror stories about having them fitted, and although it wasn't a comfortable experience, it wasn't the nightmare some people would have you believe!

My (two) periods have been surprisingly light with Paragard. First one was medium, this last one was light. About six days each. I switched from the pill, and before I was on the pill my periods were pretty awful... bad cramps and pretty heavy flow. That said, I'm shocked that my periods haven't been horrible.

I did have a lot of random cramping and bloating in the weeks leading up to th first period, but that all went away.

I'd say go for it. Everyone has a different experience, though.

Don't do it!!!! I got pregnant on the copper Paragard IUD!!!!

I got pregnant on the pill so I switched to the copper IUD, I've had it for about a year the only thing I don't like, is that it makes my periods suuuuuuper heavy!!!! Other than that i like it!
