First ultrasound

I have a question. I am from Canada and currently 9 weeks. My doctor told me today my first ultrasound would not be until 20 weeks? I guess I just always figured it would be at 12 weeks or definitely sooner.

Is this the standard now? I'm so confused and disappointed just because I'd like to see a glimpse at my baby and see how they are growing. Thanks for the help in advance!!

I'm in Ontario and I got one at 12 weeks. It's a bit surprising that they wouldn't do one sooner. Were you at your GP or OBGYN office? Maybe try going to the other one and see if they'll request one

In Canada the first scan is the anatomy scan (18-22 weeks). Unless you decide to do the quad screening and then you will have one at 12 weeks as it's part of the testing. I strongly suggest asking for the testing.Sometimes you get an early dating scan around 6-8 weeks of the don't know when you conceived.

Where are you in Canada? I've been pregnant in both BC and Ontario. In BC standard practice is a dating ultrasound around 8-12 weeks and then an anatomy scan at 20ish weeks. In Ontario you'll usually have a dating ultrasound at 7-10 weeks and a NT ultrasound at 12-13 weeks, and then the anatomy scan at 20 weeks.
