Why do you have to count kicks?

I'm in third trimester and everyone asks if I been counting kicks. Is it important to count them?

My doctor never mentioned doing them (I'm 33 weeks tomorrow) and I honestly probably wouldn't have done them anyway. I pay attention to her movement patterns and make sure she's moving around the same. But honestly, some days she's a little lazier in the mornings and some days it's afternoons. Days where I walk a lot, I don't feel her as often.

If you know their patterns, it's perfectly fine to just pay attention to those instead of counting kicks.

Because it monitors your baby's health. You should know if baby stops moving so you can call your doctor because that can mean baby isn't well.

My doctor didn't say to do kick counts. He said just to be aware of her movement patterns and if I don't feel her move like normal to get checked.

I never did. I just knew her patterns of moving. And if she didn't move for a while I used my Doppler and listened.

Kick counts are a good way to help monitor how baby is doing. Generally, you want at least 10 kicks in a 2 hour period or less. If baby hasn't moved in 2 hours and its difficult to get baby to move, it could be an indication that something is up and you should get checked just to be on the safe side.

I don't count 🤷🏽‍♀️ I did once when I felt like he hadn't kicked all day but I did the count n he was fine . I have a healthy stubborn baby lol
