Insurance Rant

Erin
Let's talk about healthcare in this country (US) for a minute. I received the explanation of benefits for ONE prenatal specialist appointment that I was referred to by my OB. This one appointment (where to me it feels relevant to point out there was no physician present) cost $2,427. No one explained that not being able to get the pictures they needed and switching ultrasound equipment for a minute or so would cost an additional $1,041. And of course I was also told I needed to come back in 4 weeks. Now I'm wondering if I should even go back for a second appointment because of the out of pocket cost. And to be clear, I have health insurance that covers prenatal 100%. (I guess this isn't considered prenatal.) What about the people who don't? Am I the only one who thinks this is all crazy?
