newborn sleep? help

So my newborn slept fine in the hospital bassinet. Once we took him home.. at night for sleeping. He couldn't sleep in his bassinet but only in our arms. Is this commen? What should we do?

don't worry it's normal, he's in a new place and the only thing he knows is you and your smell. Hold him to sleep if you can so he is comfortable while adjusting to the house. To help him transition to his bed put one of your shirts that you've been wearing (with your smell on it) in near him (far enough away from his face though so it's not a suffocation hazard), after a few days he will get used to your normal house smells etc. Just try to enjoy the cuddly time, I know it gets hard while your so tired. Also you can try to pre warm the bed if it's cold where you are ☺️

Give your babe time. The best advice my mom gave me was to remember they are figuring out being a baby at the same time we are figuring out being parents. Are you breastfeeding? I was (still am) and honestly had no idea what I was doing. My poor girl was starving because I thought oh ten minute feedings are reported as the average for BF- and then found out well shit that's for bigger babies, newborns need some marathons, even if just for comfort! Putting yours in the bassinet with you right there hushing and reassuring them also is okay- it's not crying it out. I never let her go more than a few minutes fussing but I also never left her side while she cried this way she knew I was there for her and she was safe to sleep. So the good and bad news is this is totally normal. If it continues or seems totally unmanageable, speak with your doctor about reflux or colic. But mostly it sounds like your baby is suffering from being a baby. This too will pass- although I know it sounds like bullshit in the moment

I know we can't do this forever so wondering if it's due to his new surrounding or just needs us for few days then bassinet? Can't have him cry it out

I think it's more that they're exhausted from the birth so they sleep better at the hospital. I have 3 kids and all of them slept better at the hospital and then I took them home and wanted to go back to the hospital lol

My daughter was the same way, and I ended up giving in and letting her sleep in the rock n play [even tho it isn't recommended] I felt ok doing it cuz she was right next to me so I monitored her constantly throughout the night and she had a breathing monitor so I felt safe doing so, once she hit 4-5mnths then I transferred her to the bassinett to get her used to it since I planned on moving her to her crib soon after tht, at tht point she didnt give me a hard time sleeping in it. Like I mentioned, the rock n play isnt a recommened place to put yur baby to sleep, they should be on a flat surface on their backs but I caved.
