baby going through regression or spurt?

Yesterday he was crying all day and if I even moved an inch away from him he would scream and cry. And today he's just eating and sleeping. No fever . He also scratched his face up yesterday before I could put some mittens on him. He will be 4 months in July

It's probably a growth spurt. They get extremely clingy and irritated during them- wonder weeks is a really helpful book/app that explains what's going on during leaps.

It could be both. For some babies the 4 month sleep regression hits them HARD.  Luckily for me it didn't affect my daughter's night sleep BUT she went from being able to fall asleep on her own (we would put her down while sleepy) to screaming bloody murder when her head touched the mattress. I had to pat her butt hard while she chewed on my shirt for her to fall asleep. Once she did, my husband would put her down, if she woke up he'd rock her to sleep. She got accustomed to this so this was the only way she fell asleep until she hit 6 months.  When she did we did the Ferber Method, now she goes to bed no problem. For some people I know their babies woke up constantly throughout the night. Hopefully this doesn't happen to you. Good luck!
