Severe Menstural cramps

I used to take birth control pills & for a while it was really great for me but then about 4 or 6 months after I started taking it my periods became heavier than they usually were & each period the cramps got worse & worse, granted I've always had bad cramps, but these are BAD. I'd get super nauseous & be on he verge of passing out frequently. It even affects my job now. I went to a doctor & was given a new prescription but my insurance wouldn't cover it, so I just stopped taking the pills all together. Now my periods are a bit more normal but my cramps are still just as bad & I still get cramps that put me on the verge of passing out, dies anyone else have anything similar they're dealing with? Or do I need to schedule a doctored appointment asap?
