Is telling someone else to respect another person's life choices, as they do not affect said person, forcing your beliefs on them?
I keep seeing ppl complaining about others "shoving their beliefs down our throats" and so on. So here's the question:
If you hold specific values and beliefs (possibly religious) and others do not, when you vote for things that are in line with your beliefs, is that not forcing your beliefs on others ? This can go for abortion, this can go for immigration, this can go for anything.
I'll put 2 examples to make this more clear:
1. You don't support the LGBTQIA movement so you feel they should not have same sex marriage or the same rights as married people. But they are still citizens in this country, pay taxes and contribute to society in positive manners. Regardless you think they shouldn't have the same rights as you, for whatever reason. Please keep in mind that not all people share your religious beliefs, and that the US doesn't have an official religion.
2. (Unfortunately it's abortion/BC) You believe that abortion should be illegal because in your view it is murder. But you also believe women should not have access to birth control via their insurance. They should pay ridiculous amounts for it, just not have sex, or not use it because in some cases believe it is a sin.
How are the views in those examples not being forced on others if ppl are pushing to make these legislations that affect everyone, but in the reverse (making sure everyone has access to healthcare and the same rights), is? Thanks
