SIDS risk @ 9 months?

Hello there!

My daughter turns 9 months in a week. I've noticed she has been sleeping on her belly lately, in return i would flip her over to her back immediately. I know babies are at risk for SIDS when they can't hold their head up or turn it in their sleep (which she can), but are babies at risk for SIDS even at 9 months? Advice is welcome!

We have a belly sleeper too! He's 8 months old and started this around 7 months. Haven't had any problems if anything I feel like he sleeps better.

I'd agree with everyone saying stomach sleeping is fine when baby can roll to their back on their own, but I think it's important that there is nothing else in the crib, such as pillows or plush toys/blankets. I've heard that the empty crib is recommended until baby is one year.

As long as you don't have more than one small blanlet in the crib i would say by 9 months the risk has gone significantly. I was horrified the first time my son slept in his crib because he would only sleep on his tummy but i would check on him and notice him laying face first, as soon as he couldn't breath he would turn his head to the side or start fussing.

I read the main reason the risk of SIDS goes down after 6 months is because before that the brain doesn't tend to be developed enough for the part of your brain that panics and wakes you up when you can't breath. Which is why soothers are a deterrent to SIDS, because they prevent babies from going into too deep of a sleep by keeping them sucking.

I've been told over and over that if they can crawl and can lift their own head they're fine. Our daughter has been sleeping on her belly since probably 6 months. Even when we used to flip her over. Doesn't stop me worrying. Or my husband from checking on her before we go to bed 😕

My son will only sleep on his belly. So far so good.

Lol my son sleeps the same now. He also rolls around in his sleep a lot. I don't worry about it anymore because he is such a good roller.

I've been told and I've read that if your baby can flip over themselves they should be fine when it comes to SIDS concern.

Our daughter has been sleeping on her belly all her life. Shes 9 months old and still on her belly. Sids is not caused by sleeping on belly. Sids has no cause. Sleeping on belly is fine as long as they roll. Theres no way to stop them while they roll.  They sleep however they want and it's normal and ok.

If you baby can roll and lift her head by herself she should be fine. But the risk of sids is higher till the age of 1
