Would you use a name your sister "staked claim" on?

My SO has loved the name Wyatt for 10 years, when we were naming our first we both had Wyatt on our lists and mentioned it to my sister who said we couldn't use it, it was her name. We're naming baby boy 2 and my SO insists we use Wyatt because he has loved it forever and we can't agree on anything else. I don't know what to do. I'm torn.

I would say do it honestly. Nobody has the right to "claim" a name. She might get upset and it could start a fight. But unless she is pregnant right now, and is also having a boy, then I say it's fair game.

Unless the sister is currently pregnant with a boy, I wood say it's fine to use. I have a cousin who has told everyone the last 6 years of her boy name, so nobody would use it. Three pregnancies and three girls later, they are done having children and never used the name.

I have two sisters that staked a claim on a boy and girl name each. Two of those names I loved and wanted to use but didn't. I've been pregnant with them more than once, first by the way, and neither of them used those names at all! We went ahead and named our youngest son a "claimed" name and my sister was mad for a bit but ended up having all girls. We love my son's name and do not regret it one bit.
I personally don't think it's a big deal to have two kids named the same in a family. There are 3 Cody's in our family by marriage and no one blinks an eye lol.

Considering my sister named her dog the name I told her I was considering for my baby (before I got pregnant, but still) I would do it in a heartbeat. If the names she has 'saved' weren't stupid.
