Did you enjoy your stay at home parent? Do you wish your parent stayed home?

Question

For those that had a parent stay home with them, did you enjoy it? What did you like about having one parent at home? Do you wish they would've been working? For those who didn't have a parent at home... what did you like about your parent working? Do you wish they would've been at home with you? 
Lastly, how do you think these experiences shaped you as a parent?

My child hood was different than most. Up until I was 8 or 9, both my parents were dealers in Vegas so we usually only saw one or the other because they worked different shifts. When they were not working they partied. My big sister and I were shuffled around to babysitters here and there... once were were in 3 and 4th grade we watched ourselves. Moved to California and my mom stayed home with us but she did her own thing and shoved us outside to play and locked the door. Only let us come in for lunch, bathroom etc.
I am now a stay st home mom and my life centers around my kid. We go to parks everyday, Gymboree, picnics with dad on his lunch everyday.... I'm the mom I never had.

My parents were farmers - dairy & cash crop.  We lived on the farm so both parents were around when I was younger.  My mom did eventually go back to school when I was 12 when the market for the cash crop crashed (she worked in the summer months taking care of the cash crop).
I loved the life I grew up with and having my parents around.  I really struggled with having to go back to work when my first was born.

Both of my parents worked. However I am a stay-at-home mom. Where we live income isn't the best and childcare is REDICULOUSLY expensive. if I worked I'd be paying for someone to watch our children plus some of my boyfriend's paycheck. I do everything when it comes to our kids and he enjoys some time with them after work. It is a sacrifice we have to make so our children get the best we can afford. I also keep house clean and do our shopping. it's a balance of things because you feel so alone with two little ones. my oldest is 16 months and thank goodness he walks and my youngest is five months. I am always busy and going. It is a full time job. BUT I wouldn't change it for anything. I miss work but not the stress of it.

My mom was a SAHM for her first 3 and she worked with her last 2. I don't know if it's coincidence or related but the first 3 are very dependent and had a rough time moving out of the house when we grew up (I'm the oldest so I'm including myself). The last 2 are so much more independent and the baby is moving out this summer after she graduated high school. The last 2 are also a lot more driven and work a lot harder for the things they want (despite both of them having pretty bad anxiety disorders). The younger ones also have a better relationship with our dad since they saw them more equally.
My experiences didn't really have an effect on my decision to go to work, in the bread winner by a lot so I had to choice. But I'm happy with it. I certainly miss him but I missed my job terribly when I was on leave, I don't think I could be a SAHM and be completely happy with it.

My mom was a stay at home mom for a while and she worked for a while. It was nice to have her at home but I was just as happy when she was working. We understood as we got older that parents have to work. We had an awesome babysitter that did fun things with us and was very attentive, and I think that's a big factor.

My Mom didn't stay home, and thank God for that! She sucked as a Mom when she was there.

That being said, I'm a very different mother than my mother, except that we are both career women and hard workers. BUT I do really well to balance my life. I work from home 4 days a week and only go into the office on Tuesday. I work 6-2:30 and my husband works 3-11. So I see my family all day almost everyday. My husband and I are raising our kids alone. I can get the laundry going while home and feed my kids on my lunch. It works out so well for us. I worked so hard on my job to get to this point of flexibility and it's SO worth it.

Working Moms tend to have more financially successful children. It's not a bad thing for our kids to see us working hard. If you want to be a SAHM, all the power to you. It's not for me. I'm glad as hell my mom didn't do it. My husband has a great job and technically I could quit, but I'm more than just a Mom and I want my life after my kids too, including duel pensions and retirements! To each her own.

I was raised by my grandparents and my grandma (young grandma) was a stay at home parent. I loved it. She was my best friend. Always available. I knew I could always talk to her or go to her and she was never too destructed or too busy for me. At the same time, I always had a constant reminder of a strong woman and that I was loved. She gave so much, that I never wanted to disappoint her. That's what I want to be for my children. I may never fill those shoes properly, but if I grow into half the person she was, I'll be good.

I loved that my mom stayed home I think it helped me with being a mom now because I have a close bond with my mother and I want to pass that down to my daughter
