How safe is an IUD?

I'm currently taking the pill and I've been on it for the past seven years and I'm considering switching to an IUD, but I hear there could be some bad possible side effects like infertility? And all the pain stories I've heard about insertion. Anyone have any advice on them?

I've had the IUD for about a year now. It's kind of uncomfortable while it's being inserted. spotting and a little cramping after, but nothing unbearable. It's easy to feel for the strings , I do it during a shower at least twice a week or so. I've been to my doctor twice since I've got it and she always makes sure to check the strings and feel for it , etc. for me it has stayed in place and I sometimes even forget it's there. I love it. But it's not for everyone, some people have non stop periods and cramping , but my periods are almost nonexistent.

It's a little bit uncomfortable when you get it inserted. Only issue I had is that every month you would have to feel for the string and I thought that was weird. Haha I did get pregnant while on the IUD. After I had my son they looked for it and it was no where to be found.
