How much discharge is too much discharge?

Question

I get discharge about half way through my cycle and normally it doesn't go away until a few days before my period starts. I've started to wear light pads so it's easier to clean up. I know some discharge is normal but I'm unsure on whether mine is normal or not?

It's different for everyone. There is no universal amount that's "too much". 
If you usually have little discharge, and it's suddenly turned into a lot - then that can be considered abnormal and you should talk to your doctor. 
If you've always had a lot of discharge, then it's likely normal. 
The color, texture, and smell of the discharge is also important for determining if it's normal or not.

If it's not normal it may have and odour and be a bit off in colour
