Membrane sweep experiences?

My dr. Mentioned sweeping my membranes to start labor next week? Anyone have an experience with this? Did it hurt? Was it effective? How long after your sweep did you go into labor or did you not even after it? Thanks!

I am 39+3 with my second child and just had my second sweep done today. My first one was last week at 38+4. Last week I was only 1cm and yes it was very painful. Lost my plug 2 days after. Today I was 2 cm and almost completely thinned out. Was not as painful today. Has it put me into labor? No. Has it helped me progress? Maybe. At this point I'm willing to try whatever so I don't have to be induced... and the pain only lasts a minute.
