Jaundice?

I had my baby at 35w 6d and I'm at the hospital for his two day check up and they want to admit him for jaundice. Anybody else had to have their baby admitted for jaundice? What should I expect?

I am a nurse that treats baby's with jaundice that need phototherapy lights. Where I work you stay with the baby at the hospital. The baby will go in a incubator to keep them warm as they only wear a diaper and then the is a blue light turned on over top of the incubator, baby wears special glasses when the light is on. The light breaks down the bilirubin ( that's what makes the skin and eyes yellow) and then baby poops it out. Baby will come out of the lights for feeding and diaper changes but that's it. Usually they stay under the lights approximately 12-48 hours depending on levels and how well they are eating and pooping. Hope this helps, its very common and with treatment does no long term harm.

They'll just put baby under a light, usually. If you're breast feeding, make sure you continue, or pump, so it doesn't affect your supply

My son had severe jaundice when he was born up until he was about 6 weeks, he legit had yellow eyes and looked really orange, poor baby had to keep being pricked with needles to test his levels evey week. He was close to having to be put under the lights but didn't have to because his numbers luckily went down. Also babies who are breastfeeding tend to be bit jaundice. But soon my son looked a normal color but he eventually got severe cradle cap and severe eczema on his face 😭

Mine both had jaundice at first, super common so don't worry! As far as I know they just put them under lights. Mine never had to do that tho, I just put them in the sun next to a window and it cleared up.
