Genetic counseling/thalassemia
Soooooo after the terrible nausea and bleeding and bed rest and uti's and yeast infections I thought everything was ok. Physically I was starting to feel great and starting to finally enjoy my pregnancy. I went in for an appointment and told them that I was thalassemia positive, I forgot to tell them the first appointment. The dr freaked out and told me I had to go for genetic counseling with my fiancé. They drew both of our blood and told us that we're most likely looking at a very sick baby. And told us that by the time they get all our results back that it would be too late to get an abortion in the state of New York so we should start looking into other states. But we never said that we would want to get rid of our baby if she was a sick baby! They cancelled a woman's appointment to get an amnio so that I could quickly get one done. The measures they were taking were freaking us out. We were truest scared. I wound up not doing the amnio because the results would take a while to come back, longer than the blood tests and the blood tests would be able to tell us what we were dealing with. No point of going through the extra pain. The results came back in 2 weeks and they said that baby girl should be just fine. They said his blood was dominant and his blood was great. I found out about a second blood disorder I didn't know I had but it was fine cause the second blood disorder would only be an issue if my fiancé was a sickle cell carrier. Very scary situation but glad baby girl will be ok and at least now we know what we're dealing with when it comes to our future kids. I advice everyone to go for genetic counseling cause you find out a lot!
