For me spotting was normal when I got the first shot. I spotted for 3 weeks. Then I got the second shot and the spotting has stopped completely.

Spotting is normal after starting any new birth control. And it's a common side effect for the shot. If it's excessive and lasts a long time, definitely bring it up with your Dr. You may need to switch to a different bc. After my first shot, I spotted for 3 weeks. Decided to get the second shot to see if it would be better, instead spotted for 10 of the 12 weeks it lasts. I'm switching next week...
