Sometimes family is just crazy. But other times they're legitimately looking out for you. You don't have to take their advice, but do listen.

if your of age... I see it as they the three F's. they ain't Fucking me Feeding me or Financally supporting me. So who I choose to have in my home my bed and between my legs is as much as their problem as what I want to eat today.

I've never cared what my family thinks of people I've dated. At the end of the day they aren't dating them so they don't have a say in it. If they were genuinely concerned then I'd hear them out but it was mostly just petty stuff. I wouldn't stop being with someone because they didn't like them.

My family was super conservative. they hated my current SO before ever talking to him cause he has tattoos and piercings so to them he was an obvious devil worshipper cause only devil worshipers do that. so they had me move and everything to keep me "pure" even though they where abusive to me (my dad eventually tried to kill my mom) he was removed from the picture she became worse we ran away. me and my SO of 4 years never stopped seeing eachother.everyone on my mom and dad's side of the family knew what they would do to us and didn't care. they all think the same. (I couldn't even step foot into a kitchen till I was 17 cause my mom tried to burn my face off so many times. I'm still scared of having my face in the water cause she drowned all the fucking time in the tub. My SO and his family saved me from a toxic family and life stile. so I say no. fuck blood family. I will never be like them. I want my kid to feel safe in there home not trapped.

Absolutely. I'm very close to my family and could never be with someone they don't approve of. Same goes for my husband. My husband is even closer to his family and if they didn't like me, he wouldn't have married me. Family is very important to us. We're thankful to have one big combined family with little to no family drama 😊

I used to care about what my family would think of my SO but now it's more of looking at it as "are you just being nosy?" or "do you sincerely think my SO is an unacceptable person" I guess it's still caring but I mean to think of it more as family looking out if it comes to that.. sorry this doesn't make sense

It depends on your situation, but for me, their approval is everything. I have a huge, very close family, like my 3rd and 4th cousins are just considered cousins kind of close.. so I couldn't date someone that couldn't have a great time and become apart of my family.. And my boyfriend's family is super close too. Are parents have yet to meet due to conflicting schedules, but we're both fairly close to each other's immediate families and it's important to us both.
