Excruciatingly Painful Nipples!! 😭 HELP

I just had my baby girl on 7/22. She nursed while in the hospital relatively easily but it was excruciating pain for me. I'm wondering if it's because of a latch problem with her and if she got more of the nipple it wouldn't hurt, or if nursing in general no matter what is just painful for me? My entire pregnancy my nipples couldn't be touched because of how painful they were. Even showers with the water hitting them hurt. Now that our baby is here, her just touching my nipples still hurt. Is there any way to help relieve this? I've been using nipple shields to reduce the pain for me as well from the contact. If I keep nursing will my nipples eventually toughen up and stop hurting?? Is that possible? Do they just hurt because of my hormones and it'll fade eventually being post partum? Help!! 😭😭
