Competitive Grandparents

My daughter is blessed to have both sets of grandparents in her life. My in laws live closer to us than my parents do, but whenever my parents visit (which is about once a month) they stay at our house for a week.

Not sure if they are purposely doing this, but it seems that there's a spirit of competition between the grandparents. Not so much with the grandpas, but definitely between both grandmas.

(& mostly my mil)

My mil made my daughter these floral booties a few months ago. My mom was inspired to bust out all her crocheting/knitting supplies too so this month she started on a poncho project for the fall for my daughter. My mil found out about it & knitted an outfit set which consisted of a hat, dress & diaper cover for my daughter.

Another instance is shopping. My parents are more thrifty & they budget shop. They look for good deals & always shop on sale. That's how it always was growing up. My in laws on the other hand are big spenders. Money doesn't seem to be an issue to them. They're all about "stuff" & materialism. My sweet Mom always brings by dresses or shoes for my daughter when they visit us & is always happy to share what a good deal she got on her purchases. My mil will brag on her extravagant shopping sprees on my daughter & will buy only name brand items.

Not complaining at all. It's nice that my daughter is so loved by her grandparents. My daughter has a closer bond with my parents because they were the ones who helped us during the first 2 weeks we brought our baby home from the hospital. My in laws never had a bond like that with my daughter. They are also older & cant play much with her. I think they are replacing quality time with material things.

Hope this competitive spirit doesn't go on until she gets older, but by the looks of it... It'll probably last a while.
