Possible Trigger?!? LShould Women Who Knowingly Cause Harm To Their Unborn Baby Be Punished?

Should woman who cause harm to the unborn baby that they are knowingly carrying and intending on keeping by exposing them to alcohol or drugs, and causing side effects that will effect the child for the rest of his/her life and agonizing pain for a year or more after they are born. (Withdrawl, Mental Illness, Physical Disabilities). I am talking about babies born addicted to meth, alcohol, and the biggest epidemic in this country right now heroin. Some states only take away the child when it is born, but the damage has already been done. The state will step in and take the child, but is that enough? What about the ones who has had 3/4/5 babies born addicted and taken right after birth?

I'm talking about mothers who don't ask for help, don't even try to find a better way for them and their baby.

I was in foster care for 5 years and adopted into a family where we have adopted two heroin addicted born babies, sibling from the same women. Their biological mother has had 9 children and everyone has been taken by the state due to drugs and/or alcohol in their blood when they are born. She recently just had twins while in prison (drug offenses) and they too are addicted.. We have her two youngest before them, and they were in painful withdrawal for weeks. The oldest had heroine,meth,crack,and alcohol in his blood. Both of them have joints that are especially effected.

I'm just curious to what people think should be done about this. An I have yet to seen it posted.
