Do I really need a baby monitor?

Question

I live in a very tiny apartment and the baby will be sharing a room with me. I'll be at home with her for the first 12 weeks and I realistically don't think I'll need one. I'll be with her almost all the time and when I'm not there's nowhere I could go where I wouldn't be able to hear her.

Not really🤷 I bought the cheapest sound monitor I could during my apartment days because I liked to out her in her bassinet for naps and do house work, so if I had the water running or something I liked to make sure Id hear her wake.

We have our home set up so the baby's room is furthest from our room, but we're not getting a monitor. I'm gonna have her bassinet right next to our bed and I'm gonna be not working and just taking care of her for a long time. I don't see myself able to leave her in another room for any amount of time. I have really high anxiety and ptsd and I don't think I could relax enough to need a monitor.

Same situation here and my son is almost two. Id say you don't really need one I  didn't use a monitor for a long time. And now I use the video and not the sound. I only just got one when my son switched to a toddler bed. I wanted it so I could make sure he stayed in his bed. In hindsight the video also would have been helpful for sleep training so I could peak at him in the video and see that he was fine.
