Is This *STEALING*??? (wwyd in this situation?)
I stole. sorta. but accidentally. and fixed it! But then......
...........
So, me and my 10 year old daughter were at Walmart shopping for school supplies.
we had the baby with us as well (3.5months ) he was in his car seat, which was in the stroller. in the carseat he had his own little blue blanky, and a little toy. we were buying him (2) new little toys, and a new teething blanket. well, I handed him the little teething blanky thing. he loved it. great. okay. moving on..
fast forward past school shopping, dressing rooms, etc. we (FINALLY)check out of the long line and head to the car, mean while babies now crying bc its time to eat.(don't ya love Walmart!ugh!!) so, I go to load the carseat into the van to get baby out of the seat to feed him. and... Ahhh shit!!! we didn't pay for the blue teething thing!!! I accidentally forgot to get it out of the stroller at check out.
So, I tell my 10 year old what happened, as we walked back in to the store, baby still hungry and needs fed. so, we quickly find a short line.
we got in a check out lane, and I told the lady what happened. she looked at me like I was neon pink. I asked her if there was a problem. "No." she said hesitantly.
Then she rudely asked, "well, just how to much was this?!
I said, "I THINK 4.88 BUT I'm not 100% sure, we've been here shopping for a while".
She grumbles to her self, and says, well I guess well have to call someone to check.
(the dang thing didnt have a tag, it hung from a plastic hook type thing off a shelf)
so, the second person gets there and says it's $5.00
I hand her a bill, and as she accepts it, looks at me and says, "Are you sure that's it?"
*Blank stare*
"Is what it?" I questioned.
"Is that all you forgot to pay for?" (stress on the word ALL)
"uhhh... yeah, that's all, that's why I hauled my tired 10 year old and hungry 3 month old back in here!
she said nothing else, only staring at me, as she blindly tossed the item in a bag.
I handed her a 10.00 bill.
she gives me my change and receipt. I shove it in my front shorts pocket.
my daughter and I decide to walk up to McDonald's to sit, to feed baby and get me and her a milkshake.
I go to pay at McDonald's, and realize that the the cashier gave me 45.00 dollars in change.
I looked at the receipt, it said I gave her a 50.00 bill!!
hmm... I thought for a minute that maybe I did. but checked my wallet. nope. it was the 10.00 bill.
in that moment... I thought.. well, oh well. ordered our food, fed the baby, and left.
I thought, if she wasn't so concerned with me forgetting to pay for other stuff, and silently judging me, maybe she would have not messed up. she literally was paying attention to me, not her job.
if I was going TO STEAL ANYTHING, I WOULDN'T HAVE WENT THRU ALL THAT TO PAY FOR A 5.00 PIECE OF FABRIC!!! I would have jus pulled out of the parking lot and left!!!!
I fed baby. we had our milkshake. and we left outta there.
I now kinda feel bad tho. bc I'm not a thief. I don't steal!! hence, why I went in and payed for the item! but in the moment I "justified" it with, the cashiers snotty attitude, and lack of attention, directly causing her mistake.
and still do kinda feel that it's her fault. I'm not the cashier, and it's not my job to check ppl out of the store.
would you have done the same? or would you have taken the money back?
do you think it's the same as stealing?
