What is a reasonable curfew for 17yr old on a school night?

My twins are 17 and just starting senior year. They no longer have a curfew due to 1.) the mad amount of things they have to do, 2.) they're almost adults and need to learn to manage their own time. I do require them to let me know if they will not be home or be home in the wee hours and where they are.

My parents had my curfew an hour before the state curfew. This way if something happened, I was always able to get home to they could get to me before curfew.

You said curfew, not bedtime, right? Not sure how coming home at 10 pm will allow any teenager the amount of sleep they need to be attentive in class the next day. By the time you get home, unwind, get into bed....with a very early wake up time to get to high school? Really? I mean I know it's been a while, but I distinctly remember having to be at school pretty damn early. I don't stay out that late on a weekday work night as an adult!

My curfew was 10pm, but I was always. Whine on my homework and sleep deprived. And honestly, staying out that late is only going to get kids into trouble... I always got home right at 10pm and usually spent my time with boyfriends doing things I shouldn't have been doing or partying. So it goes without saying, I'll be giving my kids a much earlier weekday curfew and also creating a home environment they choose to spend their time in.

Mine was always the legal curfew, which was 11 on weekdays and midnight on weekends.

When I was 17 I was in bed by 8pm and asleep by 9 pm every night....i also had no friends, no social life, and sat by myself doing my homework in the library at lunch. It was a sad existence.

I feel like it really depends on the kid in question. If they're doing good in school and are able to get themselves going on time in the mornings and not be late, then I would say 9 or 10 is a good time frame. If they're schooling is suffering and they can't get themselves going in the morning and are constantly late, then I would say 8pm.

In my house, you have to be home for dinner. I think that's reasonable. I don't really see why a student needs to be doing non school related things on a school night, but I'm lame so maybe if I wasn't, my opinion would change.
