Did I overstep?

Question

I don't have kids yet (trying). I was standing at my sink getting ready to make dinner and I look out the window and I see the two neighbor kids carry a 9 foot ladder in their yard. So I watch for a second. They set it up and start climbing on it! Idk where the parents are. So I go out there and said "guys I don't think that's a good idea. I don't want you to get hurt". They were nice and said okay and put it back. They could have broken their neck or worse!

personally I don't think overstepping applies when you see children in a potentially dangerous situation and no other adults are around.

I would have done the same. If they were teenagers I would have kept an eye out, but wouldn't say anything.

I would have said something differently. Like, "Hey did your parents say you could do that?" From my experience with other parents, whether they are right or wrong, they typically hate when you tell their kids what to do. Like I said, wrong or right who knows if the parents allowed them to do so.

I would have done the same. My neighbors have a ton of little kids running around, ages 2-11. Sometimes the kids are outside playing and screaming until 3am and keep me and my husband awake at night. Most of the time, the parents do not supervise them. It's actually pretty sad. So anytime I catch them outside super late, I go outside and tell them it's time to go inside and all the grown ups around are sleeping. At first I thought I was overstepping and was almost nervous to tell them to go inside. It shouldn't be my job. But if the parents aren't supervising them, and something dangerous could happen with them being out so late, I'd hate myself if anything did happen.

No I don't think it's overstepping at all, the parents were probably busy and didn't even realize what their kids were doing.  If I was the mother of those children I would be very grateful to have good neighbours like you who may have potential saved my child from getting hurt or worse! I think your a wonderful caring neighbour who did the right thing.

you didnt overstep. you would feel worse if you didnt say anything and the Kids were to fall and get seriously hurt.

Ehh. While it's annoying to them, I think it's the right thing. They probably wouldn't of listened to you but at least you did warn them!

no you saved ghem from getting extremely  hurt and if you just stood there and eat he's and didn't say anything.. and they did get hurt .. it would feel really bad
