15 months not self feeding?

My son had his 15 month appointment and the doctor was concerned that he does not self feed or walk. My soon eats table foods well but only wants to be fed. I've tried putting food in his hand or cheerios on the high chair tray but he just drops them to the floor. He will grab my hand to move the spoon to his mouth only. Also he is not walking yet. Doctor says he might need physical therapy and I feel like a horrible mom. I'm failing. Anyone else 15 month not self feeding?

First off you are NOT a horrible mom, even if your child needs physical therapy. Some things are out of your control. Have you tried a wide variety of finger foods? Sometimes it just needs to be something they really like to motivate them. My little brother never wanted to feed himself as a baby because he knew we could get food in his mouth faster and hated being dirty (potty trained himself at 18months). Try not to stress too much

That's absolutely crazy. Every toddler is different and us moms couldn't say that enough. My son is 15 months old and literally started walking yesterday, it was literally over night. He self feeds his treats but yet he doesn't wave or clap, things that babies do very early. He mumbles baby talk all day and doesn't say 1 word yet, but yet he can mumble in a singing tone to the ABC song and a couple nursery rhymes start to finish. He will walk when he feels like it, just practice with him and he'll get it. You're doing great and I'm sure you'll little one is just perfect.

You are not a horrible mom! My son still isn't walking yet, and he will be 15 months on the 17th. He just now started standing on his own for a few seconds about 2 weeks ago. Try not to stress about it:)

Don't stress out. Every child is different. My oldest didn't self feed or walk at 15 months. He's almost 5 now. He is perfectly fine. Everyone develops at different times. My doctor wasn't worried. I can't believe your doctor said that. Don't stress. It will happen soon enough.

My daughter is not walking yet she will be 15 months on the 21st. I feel disappointed about the walking too. I don't no how to get her to let go and walk on her own. She has no interest. I feel disappointed because I teach and I was home all summer and for sure thought I'd teach her How to walk. That hasnt been the case.
As for the food she has no problem with that but try puffs first. That's what my daughter started picking up first. Good luck it'll all happen eventually!

My 15 month old just started walking and it happened really fast once she was ready. Her doc wasn't concerned and said as long as she did by 18 months we were fine. I don't know where you're from but if it will make you feel better I would call early intervention and have them come out and see what they say.  As for food, we definitely started with puffs and now she only wants to eat on her own. Good luck mama!

Some babies just aren't motivated by food. My son could not care less about it, or how it gets to him. I basically have to stand up and do a choreographed cheerleading routine to show him when he's done something well, to get him to do it again. He would prefer to toss his food on the floor. It's natural to be worried, but has your baby hit the other physical milestones - clapping, waving?
