Do you think it's important to talk about your past with your partner?

When I met my parter he insisted on us keeping our past relationships in the past and only focusing on the present and future. I told him some things about my past relationships including some things sexual. He refuses to speak on that part of his life. He only talks about the mother of his son and their relationship, because she is still in his life of course. What do you all think?

their should be nothing hidden between a strong couple. if they truly love you what you did in your past shouldn't bother them, but they do deserve to know. If they have a problem with anything from your past they probably shouldn't be with you. If they are able to take your past in a yet still love you for the person you are in that moment and what you want to be with them later you have met the person that was for you.

no leave ur past in the PAST. that's why it's called the past. but if he's curious and wants to talk about it then talk about it. but it's not a good idea. i never talk to my husband about the past when we started to date

my husband and I have a broad idea of each others pasts, but we didn't need to go into detail. He probably doesn't want to tarnish your view of him or his view of you, which can happen.

My boyfriend constantly brings up his past. (He's texts frequently with an old fuck buddy - one thanksgiving he left me to drive two hours to be with her for the weekend because she "needed a friend" - she was never over him and has tried to get back with him since he ended things with her to be with someone else, the next girl I mention haha, and made up with an ex - they call one another "bae"). This all drives me crazy, I never asked to know his past. He told me he's had 7 sexual partners (he was my first) and about how many girls he's tried to be with or who have tried to sleep with him. He visited his parents once (last summer) and was in bed with another girl (he assured me nothing happened because she has a girlfriend and then went on to say that he loved her and she loved him and how they missed the opportunity to be together because they were so close and blah blah he called what they had/have mutual care). I've heard so many intimate details and just bullshit that I never cared to know. Knowing about his past colored my opinion of him. It's makes me think that he's a jerk but that's not the person I fell in love with. I feel in love with a guy that made me laugh and made me love everything I hated about myself. He was kind, loving, respectful, and understanding. Knowing him as his past self, made me question too much - about him, about me, and about us and our future. It made me insecure and makes me depressed to the point of questioning his happiness with me. I recommend not knowing (unless it's important to your relationship - STDs, kids, etc) because there's things you cannot change and that just need to be left in the past.

I wouldn't bring it up, but if he was curious or had any questions, of course I would talk about it....However, I don't think it's that important of a subject to bring to light.

we talk about EVERYTHING. 
I know all about his dark past, and he knows all about my dumb mistakes. 
and we both know that it's in the past. 
but it was nice to know and to help each other build off those to make our relationship so much stronger. 
I am in the bat realtionship of my life and he is so wonderful. I'm so happy to call him my husband.

I've been friends with my husband since we were six so it's not necessary for me. I can see both sides to this argument.
