Do I Need a D&C?

Hello. I had a miscarriage several months ago. I was 7 weeks pregnant and I was told it would all pass naturally. I had an ultrasound and the doctor didn't see any remnants. A friend later told me that even at 7 weeks my miscarriage requires a D&C.; She said that after her first miscarriage she had two more and it wasn't until she got a D&C; that her pregnancy went full term. I went to a free clinic because I was unemployed at the time. Is it possible that my miscarriage wasn't treated properly?

I carried a blighted ovum until about 11 weeks before I naturally miscarried it, as I opted for no procedure. From what I'm reading of others, it seems like the overall process took longer but so far no complications. At the time my doctor basically said if I didn't pass it by 12 weeks he would want to intervene

I have not ever heard of a D&C; being necessary at 7 weeks. I miscarried thereabouts and went naturally. I've known women 14 weeks who have also miscarried naturally. I wouldn't worry about it.

I was 15 week when I loss my son and I didn't need a D&C.; the doctor would have had you have one if you needed one.

Your body should always naturally get rid of a miscarriage. Sometimes it just takes a long time for your body to recognize it so they recommend a D&C; or taking a pill to induce labor to dispel all the tissue. The later you are the best option is a D&C; to ensure all the tissue is removed. The pill can be very painful and messy, especially if you are further along. I had a D&C; at 11 weeks and took the pill at 7 weeks. But my miscarriage at 7 weeks they told me I could wait for my body to do the work or take the pill to get it over with. I opted for the pill.

I was told by my OB that a miscarriage  after 6 weeks increases the chance of you needing a d&c.; although if you are not experiencing any complications such as heavy bleeding or pain you are probably fine and do not need one. if you feel concerned then try seeing a doctor if you can. best of luck and baby dust
