Can't use a wax warmer?! What?

Question

So I was in my classroom Friday getting it all done and set up for Open House. I was about to drop a fresh tart into my wax warmer when another teacher told me not to because inhaling that could harm the baby. . What?? For real?? I don't understand how. Thoughts on this one? Because I have never heard or read not to do this.

Damnit I don't know why it didn't come up as a link but Google dangers of scented candles...the parafin was releases toxic chemicals when burned! This includes candles and tarts..,shit is crazy! Your think there would be an issue with selling them if they cause indoor pollution like they say they do

Essential oils are what can be harmful especially in first trimester, and some throughout pregnancy. I've never heard anything bad about candle warmers I use them all throughout our house and our doctor has never advised otherwise

Thank goodness you posted this. I have this amazing bubble gum wax melt I love dearly I haven't been able to use it at all because of how sensitive my smell is at the moment but I was going to use it later and now I won't be. I had no idea it released toxins.

An alternative you could use is adding a few drops of essential oil and some water. It should have the same effect minus the toxins. I have a warmer and I'm able to set it on low so it doesn't burn out the water to quickly. Or just get a diffuser and use your oils in that. It's so very relaxing.

The warmers and such release toxins when melted that can be harmful to yourself. I would imagine that could mean that it could transfer to baby as well. There are just a lot of chemicals in wax melts and candles that when heated are released into the air and then you're inhaling that. That's why some people, like myself, get severe migraines when in homes where they are in use.
