I'm pansexual and proud as well and engaged to a guy. I've been in your shoes, asking the same question. My sort of "horror story" is that people would accuse me of being fake and only saying I was pan for attention because I was in a relationship with a man. 
I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with being pansexual, and your relationship status and who you're with don't matter either. If you know you're pan, than hey guess what? You're pan! Don't listen to anyone who tries to tell you otherwise.

Just because you chose someone one of a certain gender doesn't mean you aren't attracted to all genders. Most of the time people who insist on erasing your queerness can't be swayed by you telling them off, but make sure you educate people who have misconceptions about the way sexual and romantic attraction works.
