Heating pad safe?

Question

I'm pregnant with my first, and been having pains and bad cramps like period cramps, I didn't know if putting a heating pad on my lower abdomen is safe and would help the pain?

My OB said absolutely not on your abdomen. I had to use it for my bulging disc in my spine on low and in intervals

My doctor said yes when I was having bad ligament pains.  She said keep it on one side, so baby could get away from the heat.  She said to keep it in low and only for 15 minutes at a time.  Either that or a warm bath.  I prefer the heating pad for a few minutes.

Lowest heat setting and no longer than 15 minutes. Try to get a towel or something in between the pad and your tummy too.
