What larger items did you purchase for baby?

We have a baby shower in a month and possibly another one in a different state. Should I wait to buy things like a crib and changing table? In your experience has family/friends gifted you these larger items new or used? I have been finding some great deals used but don't wait to regret spending the money if someone does decide to gift us one. Also is 25 weeks too early to be thinking about the babies furniture?

I got every big item I registered for. I really didn't think I would but people were way more generous than I gave them credit for! Also, usually stores give a discount for items not purchased.

My mom bought my crib, and my dad the travel system and he refinished a dresser for us. No one bought any huge gifts off the registry, so feel free to get the furniture you want.  New is nice but I've learned with 90% of baby items most used things are very gently used, babies grow so fast!!

My grandma bought me my changing table off my registry. But other than that I bought pretty much all the bigger items (rocking chair, crib, bassinet, stroller, car seat)

The biggest thing we got off our registry was a high chair (like $150). I had also Registered for our travel system (like $300$) but we didn't get it. I would throw a few expensive things in there- but not too many. 
I personally felt that my husband and I should get the furniture- and I'm glad we did cuz we got it around 28 weeks so we could assemble the nursery. My shower wasn't until 32 weeks so then we were able to wash and put everything away right away.

We registered for everything we'd need (but already had a hand me down crib and knew we were being gifted a dresser). My shower is next weekend, but we can already tell people have bought our travel system, convertible seat, etc. I put it all on the registry since most have a completion discount or coupon to use later-- whatever we still need will at least be cheaper!

I started buying furniture at 11 weeks. Me doctor told me I was out of the early miscarriage window and said I should be ok to start buying stuff. I have mostly small necessities in my registry. My mom bought my travel system already and I bought a crib and a glider used. I feel weird about having super expensive items in my registry so I chose to purchase those things.
