7/27/17 birth story

Tanya

Well my baby is just 5 days away from being a month old but I figured I better write my birth story down before I start forgetting! Will try to keep it short 🙈

So... around lunch time on 7/26 we went to my father in laws so my husband could help paint their house. I was feeling some cramps but didn't think anything of it. I was 2 days overdue and had an induction scheduled on 7/31 which I was expecting to make it to haha. We went home and I decided I better time these "cramps" because they seemed to be getting more intense. They were about 8 minutes apart and consistent. I told my hubby we better run out and take care of our horses in case we were heading to the hospital that evening. While at the barn my contractions started coming every 5 minutes but still weren't painful or even very uncomfortable but I was starting to think something might be going on. We got home and I called my midwife who said that she didn't think it was time since I could have a 10 minute conversation with her no problem haha. Once I told her I made it to 8cm with my 1st without an epidural she told me I should come get checked since this one would probably come quicker. My sister in law came over around 10pm to stay with our older daughter. We packed up and headed to the hospital, but I was fully expecting to get sent home. At the hospital I was checked and was surprisingly 5cm, but baby was still high and face up. Fast forward to about 3am I got an epidural because I was exhausted and baby wasn't coming down. The next morning the nurses tried flipping me every hour and using the peanut ball... baby still wouldn't come down. I don't even know what time it was at this point but all of the sudden I started feeling pressure and shaking horribly which got me excited. I remembered that from my first birth, right before it was time to push. My midwife came in and checked me and I was almost complete, but baby was still high. I laid there for some amount of time (felt like hours!) waiting for her head to come down. Long story short... baby's heart rate started to dip every time I had a contraction. She never engaged or turned face down. After having tons of people rush in my room flipping me around trying to get baby's heart rate back up (twice, they told me if it happened again I was going to have a csection) I was absolutely hysterical and knew where it was going. They recommended a csection and I hesitantly agreed. I knew it was best for baby but a csection was the LAST thing I wanted after I had a great vaginal birth experience with my 1st baby. I just wanted to go get it over with, instead of having to be rushed back if her heart rate wouldn't come back up. Being wheeled back to the OR was a very surreal experience. Lots of medical staff and very "sterile" experience. I was crying so horribly that my nose was totally stuffed up. Add that into the claustrophobic feeling of the anesthesia and I almost had a panic attack. However everyone was so reassuring and comforting I finally relaxed. As soon as my husband came in I remember telling him to "tell me something." I just needed him to distract me. Luckily the whole procedure was very fast and soon I heard my baby's beautiful cry. Peyton Marie was born at 3:50pm on 7/27. She weighed 8lbs 3oz and was 20inches long. A whopping 2 pounds heavier than my first! She came out very alert and eager to nurse! They helped me do skin to skin while I was getting

stitched up and we were back in my room before I knew it. The first week of recovery was absolute hell but I am finally feeling like myself again. I'm still upset about the way everything happened but ultimately it was out of my control and my baby girl is healthy which is most important.

My first meeting her little sister 😭😍🎀❤️
