Battered Men's Shelter?

Question

Dallas has opened a battered men's shelter. A lot of my friends think that they should not have opened it. Some think that men can't be abused (which is wrong). The others think that they should share the battered women's shelter, but the women might be traumatised and be uncomfortable around men! 
So what do you guys think?

2. They are separate for a reason and need to stay that way as both sides are and can be traumatized for a long time by the one who abused them and the shelter helps them to gain trust again.

I think a shelter for abused men is a good thing. Men get abused as well meaning that this is a need. 
I don't think they should share facilities. They are separate with good reason.

One question. Why the fuck are we not helping men more as it is? Bit whoop. One shelter. Meanwhile abuse rates are fifty fifty but $120million was donated to helping women escape abuse..... the fact that we laugh men's claims off is fucking disgusting. It's repulsive, it's so gross, I don't want to live in Australian knowing we flat out ignore men being abused. I can't and won't stand for any more of my brothers getting bashed and being told to toughen up. Fuck that.

we have one 9 miles away (we have 6 female shelters in a 7mile radius) we need more of them everywhere, we have one women's shelter that will take men in extreme circumstances which is great but not enough, they keep them separate to minimise trauma to both sexes but the men's resources are scarce and severely lacking in the help they provide. anyone can be a victim and need help, men rarely get help because they're mocked and judged which is awful, I watched a programme a while ago about how many men are on the streets due to abuse and are too scared to get help or report because of backlash, not being believed, and being scared if they did come forward they'd be seen as the aggressor and be arrested.

We need them! Men can be abused- I've seen it- and they fear speaking up, because it's still seen as weakness or just "not possible", and we should break that stigma.
