Opinions on giving expressed milk early due to breast preference...

Danielle

Hi! I am a first time mum and my son is 1 week old and EBF, I love breast feeding him! I have found that he has a very strong preference for the left breast which I expected from the start as it always produced more and faster when I practiced expressing before he was born. I am persisting with the right breast at every feed to encourage him to take it and he will sometimes take a small amount, but he becomes easily distressed and mostly refuses. I have tried many different positions and cannot decide if it is positional or if just he doesn't enjoy the flow from the left breast! I am going to ask my midwife to check him over and ask their advice too. He has become very wise and attaches so easily to the left breast, but just fusses over the right until I offer his favourite! In order to keep up my supply to the right breast, prevent engorgment and give my left breast a rest I have expressed in the morning and night and got good amounts. Daddy would love to help with feeding! Is he too little to introduce 1/2 bottles per day of expressed milk, should I persevere until he is a bit older as he may change pretences again? I would hate to get it wrong and ruin the breast feeding relationship we have! Also, if anyone has any advice about getting him to take the right breast I would very much appreciate it 😀
