What should I buy now before my baby shower and what should I wait to get after ?

I would register for everything you want/need. After the baby shower happens you can get the rest of the stuff.

I bought my crib because a neighbor was selling one for a good price, and I also got my stroller because coworkers had given me a generous gift card that I decided to use towards it. Everything else I put on my registry :) got a lot of my stuff at my first baby shower. Since then I've just gotten some wipes. I'm having another shower in a couple months so I'll buy stuff after that probably :)
