Citizenship: What would you do?

Question

If you could make up the NEW laws for becoming a US citizen, what would be the requirements? Currently some of the highlights are: 1) Apply for a Green card by being sponsored ( for at least 5 years) 2) Read, speak and write in english 3) Take a civics test 4) Not have a record 5)demonstrate residence.  Let me know if I left off anything.  I do think you should have a trail period here to demonstrate good character by not breaking any laws or showing you will establisb your self. I think you should definitely be able to speak and understand the language, and take a test to make sure you understand the countries laws and history behind our culture. I dont think I would change anything.

I'm fine with sponsorship and qualifiers if there isn't a sponsor. 
   
I don't see the point of the language requirements, my family never would have passed those and have done more for the USA than people who have been here for generations before us. I also don't agree with education requirements. 
   
I am fine with waiting periods for welfare benefits or gun rights. I am fine with probationary periods. 
   
I am fine with people just getting tax IDs and never becoming citizens. I am also fine with duel citizenship. 
   
I would be happy to see probationary periods cut down for contributing in positive ways to communities.
   
I don't think people should be penalized for never applying before (I don't agree that it should be treated as a crime if we want people to be documented). I think people should have to be convicted of a crime unrelated to immigration to be deported. 
   
I think children who come here should be given the right to become citizens as independent people from their parents and that they should be able to find sponsors through the public education system. 
   
I don't think undocumented immigrants should get instate tuition for institutions unless they own property in that state (not just reside). 
   
I don't think pe should have to apply from their country of origin, nor wait there. I think after vetting, they should be given a tax ID while they wait for green card approval. 
   
There is a lot more but these are off the top of my head.

If it were up to me there'd be no borders in general. Anyone could go wherever they wanted despite where they were born originally.

I don't have all the answers for fixing citizenship, but I do have a few concrete policy changes I'd like to see. 
The first thing I'd do is ditch the English language requirement. There's exceptions now, but having it in any form is absurd when we don't have a national language. 
I'd stop asking people outdated "morality" questions. I'm legally certified to help people fill out that part of their paperwork, and I mentally cringe every time I've had to ask someone if they were a prostitute or communist. 
I'd abolish any requirements that make people return to their county of origin while obtaining citizenship. 
I'd keep DACA, but do a bit of a rewrite and expansion including dropping the exorbitant renewal fee. 
I'd accept more refugees with the option to become citizens, or at the very least I'd follow through with the agreements we've made that the current administration is ignoring.

I think it's a pain in the ass that my husband (European) has to jump through as ma y hoops as he does to try and get a green card. Even though I'm a US citizen and so are all of our 5 kids. We live in Europe and are no longer trying to move back to the states but when we were, it was an extremely long, difficult and expensive process. almost 7 years ago we applied for him to get a green card and we had to travel 3 hours one way several different times to the US consulate, take entire days off work to do so, spend thousands of dollars in application fees and special medical appointments, also we needed a sponsor since I'm a stay at home mom and couldn't support our family upon arrival in the states, even though he had a job lined up with proof. I get it to a certain point, but being American and having American kids and proof of a job lined up that series well above the poverty limits, I feel like it should've been a much easier, faster and less expensive process
