What do you think about dating someone with a different religion?

I'm Catholic but I'm totally okay with dating a Protestant guy. As long as he understands my values and loves God and Jesus just as much I do (maybe even more). Share your thoughts!

My husband is an atheist and I'm a Catholic. I'm actually a Catholic school teacher. He comes with me to church sometimes and helps with parish functions, he's respectful, but he definitely doesn't believe in any of it. We have been together for 14 years and married for 6. Our son will be baptized Catholic when he arrives and with that will come CCD as he grows up. When our son is older he can choose what he believes and we are both okay with that. There are honestly parts of my faith I struggle with but that's my own issue and has nothing to do with my husband. It's not a huge deal to us.

Answer

Catholicism and Protestantism are both a denomination of Christianity, so I don't think that typically poses too much of an issue. As long as both partners respect the other's beliefs, that's the most important thing! Raising a child and having extremely different religions might be tricky, but if there is love and understanding I'm sure a compromise can be reached (ex. Attending services for both religions, so the child is exposed to both and each parent can worship as they see fit). I think it's just all about respect!
