Give water on 1st birthday- common?

My son is almost 11 months old- is in excellent health and hitting all his developmental milestones in a timely fashion. His pediatrician recommended to give him water only after his 1st birthday as that prevents weight gain.

Is this common? Are others told to do the same? Will my son easily drink water after his first birthday or he will have to tricked/ forced to do so?

My sons been drinking water since his 6 month visit. The reason you wait till 6 months is because their kidneys are developed enough to handle water intake. After 6 months it's fine. Milk is what you have to wait till 12 months for.

My pediatrician said we could give my 4 month old up to 2oz of water if we're outside on a hot day. I've never heard of waiting up to a year.

Is your baby having trouble gaining weight? I give little sips of water at meal times but breastfeed any other time.

Then I don't see a problem but I wouldn't give more than 2-4 oz a day

My daughter has had water before then, but not a lot. You can introduce juice and water after 6 months.

I've never heard that advice. It's usually recommended to start giving them sips of water when they start solids (around the 6 month mark). My little girl is 10 months and drinking water really well at meal times. She's still drinking 4 bottles a day and having 3 meals and a snack, so I don't think water is filling her up!

I've been giving a little water with food since he's reliably eating solids ~7 months as recommended by my pediatrician.

My son's had water since 6 months without issue. He's 1 now and gets both water and milk.

I never heard wait until 1 for water. In fact my pediatrician told me once his teeth started coming in to do a bottle of water at bedtime after brushing teeth if he wanted a bottle instead of formula. I agree with another poster that the one year rule I know is for milk.

I was told they can have 1-2 oz as soon as you introduce food. My daughter has been drinking water from a sippy cup since 4 months old.
