please help. Nuvaring

OK so I have used nuvaring for 6 months. I put it back in Monday after my period. After an hour I started itching inside really bad. my obgyn wouldn't help me so I called my mom who's a nurse. she said I might have a yeast infection. I thought maybe because I never had one before and I'm 22 it was bound to happen eventually. I got medication and after using it for two days it started getting worse not better. the medicine said it would relieve itching but no. I finally had it last night and took my ring out. I felt instant relief. it still itches a little buy its getting better. I do Need to put a new one in though what should I do to prevent whatever the issue was and does anyone know what caused it? My fiance came in me on Monday and I need my ring.
