To Period or Not to Period?

I've decided I'm getting an IUD, but I can't decide if I want to get the one where you still get your period, or the one where you don't.

Pros seem to be: less hassle. But I hear you still get cramping?? And with the one where you get your period I hear it makes the bleeding heavier (total Con)!?

Part of me wants to still get my period because I'll have reassurance every month that the IUD is doing it's job!

Ladies, what's your experience with the 3 and 5 year IUD? What side effects were there if any? Did anyone still get pregnant WITH the IUD? Which one did you choose- to bleed or not to bleed!?
