Why do UK Drs not scan early- it is purely budgets

Question

All the US Mamas out here seem to get a million scans before 12 weeks, i won't even have my booking appointment until 10 1/2 weeks! Are UK mums more at risk of a missed mc or something else going wrong? I know the NHS does not have limitless supplies!

I only got 1 scan at 12 wks. which was also my 1st appt. and then my anatomy scan at 22 wks. not all US Dr's do a ton of scans. our insurance sucks. lol. I would rather have the NHS and be guaranteed health care no matter what!

here's my experience with nhs scans... I  fell pregnant in 2012... had my first scan at 5 weeks as I was in a lot of pain and was shocked to find out I was pregnant so they thought it could be ectopic.. that was too early to tell so then at 6 weeks and 5 days I had a second to find out it was all ok baby had a strong heartbeat but I had a blood clot in my womb... then a week later I started with horrible pains I knew something was wrong but the Drs would not send me for another scan! the pain kept getting worse and I just got told it's growing pains it's "normal"... bang on 11 weeks I started spotting i went straight to urgent care.. to get told to bed rest it will be ok but this was on the Monday and they booked me for a scan on the Thursday... come round to Thursday had my scan I lost the baby at 7 weeks 5 days.. it was all still their perfectly intact! if only they had listened to me and scanned me I wouldn't of got my hopes up counting down the days to be out of the danger zone!! it broke my heart the way k wasa treated and the rest I went through after the scan was horrendous and I'll never forgive the nhs for the way they treated me!! but that's in the past now ☺

We do an ultrasound at 8 weeks to properly date the baby and make sure everything is ok. The. Another around 20 weeks for gender and to ensure the baby is growing properly. Usually that's it if you are having a healthy pregnancy.

My first scan was at 9 weeks I’m American. Our practices are private so it depends on the practice.

It depends on your pregnancy here in the US. I went to a fertility specialist so we had US done early to make sure the pregnancy was viable. The first time I was pregnant my first regular OB appointment is was set for 12 weeks. I lost that pregnancy so when I got pregnant again they made the appointment sooner at 9 weeks because of that. I'm pregnant with twins and am considered high risk for a number of reasons so I've had a ton of US done because of that. Not to mention if they weren't able to find both heartbeats they often just did an US to make sure they were both ok.
But in a healthy pregnancy usually most women in the US only get two US anyway. One as a dating US when you go into your first appt and then an anatomy scan at 20 weeks.

I didn't realise that there were such discrepancies- does it depend on insurance type then? I suppose those who get a lot of them talk about it- then they might have super fancy insurance! Yea we are lucky- definitely over the course of our lifetimes! Just got me panicked with some women putting up loads of early scan and blood tests!

I was super high risk and had scans weekly from 6wks twice a week until i delivered my son. I was lucky to be scanned so much. Nhs do not usually scan alot not sure why though mainly because of budgets i think personally

Honestly it just seems like that from what others say in here. I'm in America and my first was not until 12 weeks and I've only had two. It's pretty standard and normal over here for that to occur it just happens to seem like that from what others post. 
I was also under the impression I would get my HCG levels checked at my first appointment as everyone on here seems to get one as well as an ultrasound and I did not. 
It's not the norm here in the US to have that many ultrasounds. All the women I know who have been pregnant had one at 12 weeks and maybe 3 tops. Unless your high risk, some on here may be high risk that we aren't aware of.

I have a scan on Wednesday at 6 weeks because I was spotting 2 weeks ago. I guess if there is no reason or a scare they don’t do it
