Best time to take folic acid?

When's the best time to start taking folic acid im not pregs (YET) do I take them now or when pregs?? Xx

ASAP! Never too early, wish I had taken them before I got pregnant as my baby ended up having Spina Bifida and we lost him! I'm now trying for my rainbow and have been taking 5mg a day for 6 months x

It’s recommend a month before pregnancy but I’ve been taking them for ever no baby yet! Rather be safe than sorry
