Does your wedding have to be an over-the-top day or do you believe in casual weddings

my mom is dead set on throwing me this big crazy wedding which keeps resulting in us postponing.  im okay with something simple, i just want to marry my best friend and celebrate with our friends and close family.

We had a small laid back wedding and I still wish we would have eloped! It was just too stressful! Your parents probably mean well but just be honest with them. If you aren't the big party type person, don't have that kind of wedding. You'll be miserable the whole time.

I had a tiny wedding - only 35 guests. It was gorgeous! It wasn't casual by any means, but it was incredibly low stress because we had so few guests. It was classy and elegant and I wouldn't have changed a thing the entire day, because it was exactly what WE wanted. All this to say, girl it is YOUR wedding. Have a talk with your mom and take the reins, because in the end it is worth it to have the day of YOUR dreams... not hers. Also, I would check out the "A Practical Wedding" website. We donated money to an orphanage, then just the two of us went to a waterpark and Sizzler. 😂 It was perfect. After five years with a crap husband having done it the way it's supposed to be by society's expectations  - I am far happier with a man who isn't screwing someone else, couldn't afford the diamond, and was happy to donate time and money to orphans instead.

I used to care a lot about how my wedding would turn out when I get married one day, but frankly now I really don't think it's something to get worked up over. It's only one celebration party for a day & I don't see the point in spending unnecessary money on things like ice sculptures & booking out the entire baseball field to get married on or whatever the crap some people do. If you've got the money, then go ahead & do it how you want, but if not then it's not a big deal if you can't have the most expensive dream wedding. Some even just go to the courthouse which saves a lot of money & trouble.

I'm not going to lie, I love extravagant parties. We got married the other day in a courthouse with just his parents, his sister, and our daughter there. In two years from the date we got married, we'll be having a vow renewal thing but it will basically be like a wedding. His family is really big on huge parties and weddings. I love weddings and I want mine to be nice. But I think I got best of both worlds because we had a quaint courthouse marriage but we'll also get to plan our wedding.
