Crib to bed?

Question

I’m a FTM and my daughter is almost 14 months old. When should I start thinking about switching her from a crib to a toddler bed? I know it’s way too soon right now but I honestly have no clue about these things!

I think whenever. My son won’t be in a crib. We have a crib sized mattress on the floor that he’ll move to in a month or so (he’s about 2 months now). We follow a lot of Montessori practices.

Every child and family dynamic is different :) 
We had baby #2 due a month before our first daughters second birthday. I was going to have a c section and would be unable to lift my toddler in and out of a crib. I started the transition around 19 months old because when the baby came I didnt want her dealing with too many transitions. 
I did it very gradual.
1) took crib mattress out of crib and placed it on floor next to her crib
2) moved crib mattress to other corner of room still on floor
3)removed crib from room
4) replaced crib mattress with twin mattress on floor
5) put twin mattress on twin bed frame with guard rails
We had foam floor mats around her sleeping areas in case she rolled.
My way might have been overdoing it as far as gradual process, but I was nesting and had crazy pregnancy brain ideas.
If she got out of bed and fell asleep on the floor occasionally it was only temporary and eventually she learned that the bed was cozy.
It helps to make shopping for a special blanket and bedspread/pillow an exciting event for the child and to use the blankie and pillow with each transition.

Every baby is different. Once they start trying to climb out then i think it's time. The longer they stay in a crib I think the better. My first didn't try climbing out till almost 3! She loved her crib

My mom had to transition my sister and I before a year old because we were 10 months old and climbing out of our cribs 😂 so really it's whenever you think your kiddo is ready!

I think it depends on the child and family. We started having huge issues at bedtime and they were solved by changing her crib into a toddler bed one day. Problem was instantly solved. My daughter had just turned 12mo, tho I gather from others that's really early. But that's how we roll, my kid was not feeling the crib so we went with it. You know your child best and are the only one that can decide if they are ready or not. Just make it a fun and positive experience. 😊

I think when she is efficiently potty trained is a good time. That's what we did with ours. (We have 7- one still under a year tho)
