When did you decide you were ready for IVF?

We are unexplained infertility. Second IUI failed. My husband isn't ready for IVF and idk if we can even afford it. I would love so advice

I am 38 and my husband is 36. After a battery of fertility testing, we found out our infertility was due to male factor. Due to our age and my husbands sperm issues, our fertility clinic recommended to go straight to IVF.

Hi Sara 
I was blessed with my first IUI 8 years ago. I had unexplained infertility also. 
I remember my doctor saying that 3 to 4 cycles is normal before discussing the IVF option. 
Now in two hours I am doing IUI again. Because it worked for me the first time I am very positive about this treatment again. I feel I am going to get pregnant. 
I guess we will see🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Because of my age my doctor is only recommending two IUI cycles and then moving to IVF😳.

I was deadest against ivf. And then our second IUI cycle was canceled (too many follicles) and I was just like eff this let,s do ivf (since the chance of success is way higher). After 18 months of failure and 1.5 failed IUI cycles...I just wanted to be pregnant! Did my first ivf cycle in July. Day 5 fresh transfer and I'm 13w+3 today.

Well.... after four years of, multiple infertility Med treatments, one IUI and two endo surgeries have led me to IVF. Our first IVF apt to discuss it is the 23rd of this month! It’s going to be expensive, but I’m not sure I can quit this journey without trying it all.....

I would say it might depend on age and specific cause of infertility.  For us it was 3 failed IUIs and was pretty much our last attempt before moving to Donor eggs because I’m 41 (was 39 when we started treatments with clomid).  Mostly We just wanted to say we had tried everything. We didn’t think male factor was our issue but now that we have done IVF with ICSI I think it might definitely have played a role because we had almost the same number of follicles in our IUIs (4-5 with IUI; 6 eggs retrieved with IVF) and yet with IVF I am now 5w5d.

I think it depends a little on your age and test results.  I didn't decide to start trying until I was 40 so it was pretty much straight to fertility testing and then IVF.  It tools us three rounds of IVF (1 was converted to IUI) and ~25K to get pregnant.  We're 13w along now and still have 1 blast on ice from cycle 3.   Whether you try IUI or IVF, I'd suggest reading 'It Starts with the Egg' and consider doing a 90 day prep before you cycle.   I also found the blog 'agate's guide to learning from your failed ivf cycle' very helpful in understanding all of the various tests and protocols to consider.   I didn't do much research until after cycle 2 and wish I had started earlier as it was very helpful in being able to ask educated questions and advocate for extra testing.
