Is watermelon racist?

Umm....well I'm aware of the stereotypes regarding black people liking watermelon....but it's also a popular and delicious fruit. People always brought sliced watermelon to picnics and kids soccer games and such when I was younger. Kind of seems like a healthy alternative to donuts to me.

He voluntarily walked himself into that termination. To bring a watermelon to a firehouse that has predominantly Black employees was rude and stereotypical. There isn't anyway he didn't think that would be offensive. Smh

This is not offensive. First of all black people liking watermelon isn't a bad stereotype watermelon is delicious. And he was being nice I woulda been happy af eating my watermelon. You guys find every little thing to complain about. There are way bigger issues in the world than someone buying people a watermelon

It could have been taken as offensive since I had read 90% of the workforce is black and you know the correlation people have made...
Many people had mentioned it's more normal? to bring donuts as gifts than watermelon. Then there's people saying a gift can be anything and watermelon isn't racist. 
Honestly, I think he was trying to say something in a passive aggressive way and I'm still not okay with it 🤷🏻‍♀️ The dude was in probation and he didn't have the job to begin with I believe, they just sent him home and he didn't get the job.
I don't know the whole story but I wouldn't like it if some white person gave me tacos as a gift when trying to work for my company or whatever, i like tacos but I don't like being made fun or belittled of in these childish and immature ways. I'd be sending the guy out my building. 
Watermelon isn't racist, his intentions were. That's how I see it.
