Change work while ttc
I’m after some advice really.
I work in a care home, it’s a dementia specialist home. I find it extremely challenging as 90% of the residents are violent, they hit, kick, bite, dig nails in, pull hair, spit at you etc. This is on a daily basis and it’s mostly during personal care although we do have a few that will just swipe for you as you walk down the corridor. Well I’m currently TTC, have been for a few months and have been determained to stay at this home because I need the maternity pay. I’ve spoken to the manager about my concerns of being hurt while pregnant but unfortunately she doesn’t class any of the residents as ‘challenging’ they don’t understand what they are doing so you can’t say anything or ‘restrain’ them in any way which is understandable but they class restraining as simply putting your arm up to meet a hit rather than taking it to the face, this is because you have stopped their ‘freedom of movement’. The management team assured me that I would be put on light duties with minimal personal care. The problem I have now is yesterday I was simply buttering some toast when a resident came up to me, grabbed my arm and sunk her teeth into my arm (bruised instantly). Now if that can happen then how can they assure my safety?! We are ALWAYS understaffed so it’s not like someone will be around to assist me if put into that situation again.
So advice needed... Do I stay where I am for the maternity pay even though I’m not pregnant and don’t know how long it will take to become pregnant or do I apply for a job elsewhere and not have the maternity pay but know I’ll be safe, I live with my partner and he earns a good wage but he likes me to earn my own money.
Thank you
