Do you think I could get a dog?

So I've wanted a dog for as long as I can remember. My grandparents always had dogs and I loved spending time with them. I also think having one could really help me and my bf, by getting us out the house to walk it and just generally being there to cheer us up.

So my boyfriend and I are both 24 and working and moved into an apartment last year. We work usually opposite hours, me 9-5 and him evenings and weekends, so there is almost always someone home. BUT we live in an apartment so have no garden. But there are many large parks around us. My family is also close by and they have gardens.

I think we would be able to look after it great and love it completely. I would be determined to give it the best life I could. We both essentially work full time so I think we could afford it. Or I would make sure we could. The dog would come first.

But my family don't think we can get one. I think because we only have a small apartment and maybe they think we aren't mature enough. But a dog would give us that chance to be responsible for someone else?

Curious if others think we would be ready. I want one so badly to love and care for and join our little family.
